We recently had the pleasure of filming CTC’s latest production – the timeless classic The Wizard of Oz. CTC, a Suffolk-based children’s theatre company, has been a long-standing client of ours for over nine years, and every time we step into the theatre with them, we’re reminded just how impressive their productions are. It’s genuinely hard to believe the talent you’re watching on stage comes from such young performers – the energy, confidence, and professionalism they bring is nothing short of remarkable.

For this production, we utilised our compact but high-quality filming setup to ensure we delivered a polished final product without being intrusive to the performance or audience. Theatre environments are notoriously tricky to film – rapidly changing lighting, wide dynamic ranges, and the need for crystal-clear audio all present unique challenges. We tackled these by using cameras capable of handling the varying light conditions with ease, ensuring we captured every vibrant scene and subtle performance moment with clarity and depth.

Just as crucial was the audio. We worked closely with the show’s sound engineer to get a professional audio feed from the sound desk. This collaboration ensures the dialogue, singing, and sound effects come through cleanly – something you just can’t rely on with camera mics alone.

Once the show is filmed, we carefully edit the footage, selecting the best angles, syncing the audio, and delivering a final video that feels cinematic while staying true to the spirit of the live performance.

Filming productions like this one is about much more than just pointing a camera at a stage. For parents and guardians, it’s a lasting record of a proud moment – a chance to rewatch their child shine and share it with extended family or friends who couldn’t be there. And for the young performers themselves, it becomes a treasured keepsake; something they can look back on for years to come and remember the magic they were part of.

On a more practical level, videos like this are also incredibly valuable for CTC. They provide a powerful marketing tool, showcasing the quality of their productions to prospective students and parents, and offering a glimpse into the amazing opportunities that being part of CTC can offer.
