Wow, can you believe it, Offset Films is turning the big one-oh. It feels incredible to celebrate a decade since Offset Films took its first steps into a friend's converted garage. It seems like just yesterday when we were moving our somewhat limited range of equipment into our first make shift office space using a beaten up old Renault Clio. But before you could say "One more take please", we had outgrown it and found ourselves in our own studio space in Wickham Market, Suffolk, where we still reside today. The journey has been nothing short of amazing!
As we celebrate this milestone, I can't help but reflect on the wide variety of projects we've been fortunate to work on over the years. From documentaries and corporate videos to charity promos, we have filmed in schools, hospitals, prisons, on boats, and even in boxing rings. We’ve even filmed underwater and stepped onto feature film sets. But the common thread throughout all these experiences has been the story that each project brought.
The Beginning: From a Garage to a Studio
Thinking back to those early days brings a smile to my face. We had brainstorming sessions filled with laughter, big dreams and the thrill of creating films from the ground up for our clients. Every project was another rung of the ladder climbed, giving us more energy and purpose.
Through perseverance and dedication, our venture began to expanded. Within our first year, we completed over 15 projects, leading to client relationships that have lasted many years. We spent countless hours learning not only the details of video production and understanding our clients' needs, but what it takes to run a successful business. This foundation allowed us to work on increasingly complex projects, obtain more clients and set the stage for our growth.
The Soul of Our Work: Great Stories
What differentiates Offset Films is not just our technical expertise, but our unwavering commitment to telling great stories, it's at the heart of what we do. Each project we undertake becomes a new adventure filled with its own unique challenges and rewards.
The magic of storytelling lies in its ability to connect people. Whether covering a charity event that highlights a critical social issue or filming with a school and speaking with students and how the school ethos effects them, it’s the emotions and narratives behind each shot that makes the difference. For instance, a recent project involved us speaking with Foster carers. The heart warming stories and real life accounts are what bring the much needed enquiries.
Facing Hurdles and Finding Solutions
Every worthwhile journey comes with hurdles. We've dealt with everything from equipment failures to tight deadlines. One challenging moment that stands out was a project that had a very tight turn around and on shoot day our main camera unexpectedly broke down. Luckily we had a spare, enabling us to stay on schedule.
These challenges have helped shape us. Each obstacle has taught us valuable lessons about redundancy, resourcefulness, and the importance of maintaining a positive attitude in production. We now operate a "What if" policy where we look at all the possibly scenerios for a project and how we get around them. This way we are always prepared and ever member of the team is on the same page.
