Recently, the team here at Offset Films had the profound privilege of working with an incredible community of women in Birmingham. We’ve been helping them build a visual platform to speak openly and honestly about their mental health.

By stepping forward to share their journeys, these brave women are not only supporting one another, but they are also empowering individuals across the UK to seek the help and support they deserve.

The Deep Impact of Lived Experiences

The women we interviewed shared deeply moving, heartbreaking, and challenging stories. While these experiences are deeply personal, they carry themes that will resonate with people from all walks of life, right across the country.

Creating a National Training Framework

Because these stories hold so much educational value, they aren't just being shared for a one-off project. The captured footage is being integrated into a comprehensive mental health training framework that will be rolled out nationally.

Why Listening Changes Us

When we take the time to truly listen to these narratives, something powerful happens:

  • We find solidarity: Comparing our own experiences to theirs can make us feel much less alone in our struggles.

  • We build empathy: It challenges us to step outside our own busy lives and ponder the hidden battles others may be fighting.

  • We practice self-compassion: Hearing these stories can help us recognise when we ourselves aren't doing so well, encouraging us to seek support or simply forgive our own flaws.

Why Video is the Ultimate Tool for Vital Advocacy

Capturing these personal accounts on video does something truly remarkable: it makes deeply human, local stories infinitely shareable across the UK, without requiring the speakers to travel and deliver them in person.

Accessibility and Convenience

Video allows us to package these vital messages into a digital format. This means the content can live precisely where the audience is already looking, ready to be accessed at a time that is most convenient and comfortable for them.

Re-Watching and Deeply Engaging

Mental health discussions can be heavy, and viewers often need time to process them. Digital video allows people to pause, re-watch, and re-engage with the content whenever they need an extra bit of inspiration, comfort, or education.

Breaking the Stigma Together

Mental ill-health remains a growing concern across the UK. While the challenges of recent years certainly intensified these issues, it has been a steadily growing crisis for a long time.

At Offset Films, we firmly believe that the only way to truly reduce the impact of mental ill-health is by breaking down the stigma surrounding it. We achieve that by talking openly, listening without judgement, and supporting one another.

We are incredibly proud of our wonderful production team for handling this delicate project with the utmost care, sensitivity, and respect.

Want to unlock the power of storytelling for your organisation? Whether you are a charity, a community group, or a business looking to communicate a complex social impact story, video is the most empathetic tool at your disposal.
