1. Ask yourself "who is your content for?"

There are many differnt types of films and many reasons to create content.
If you know who your intended audience is, you can create content that is intersting and appeals to them and their needs.
Who will get value from your product or service?
Who would be the person actually paying?

Answering these questions can give you ideas on the type of content to create.

Who is your content for?

Step 2:

2. How will you get infront of your target audience?

Once you have worked out who is your target audience, now you can consider how you will get your content infront of them.
Will you find them on Facebook? Instagram? Linked in? Youtube? Other social Media? Blogs?

How you intend to reach out to your audience will effect the length of content, its form (Portrait or landscape) and other features.

How will you reach them?

Step 3:

3. What do you want to say?

How can your content answer problems?
Can your content build trust?
What features are important for the user?
Why does your product or service get delivered that way?
How can they benefit?

Can you start a dialogue, what would they like to see next?

What do you want to say?

4. Story is key!

The most engaging and interesting content is that which can take your audience on a journey.
Even if the content is uncripted, there will be a begining, middle and end.
Can you compliment the story with some visuals which show what you are saying?
Can you evoke emotion for your audience?

Story is key!

Step 5:

5. You have planned your content and written your script, break the script down for visuals which show more than tell.

Think about the images, how can you best show the action within the space.
Consider how those shots can transition into each other, pushing the story forward. Each new shot is a new oppertunity to push the story forward.

Step 6:

6. Where can you create your content.

What location do you require? Where will your audience use your product or service.
Its complimentary to use makeup or skintreatments within a clean bathroom area. But certainly would be strange to watch it applied in the woods.
How can you minimise background noise?
Will your offer shine in an office? or at the beach? Or on a long straight road?
What props and colours can also feature. If you have brand colours how will you make those stand out?

Location, Location, Location.

7. What equipment will you need?

From Lights, Camera and microphones:
Using the right equipment will give you the best chance for your audience to stay engaging for longer.

With the rise of User Generated Content (UGC) - potential customers dont mind a rough and ready video captured on a phone, aslong as they can see and hear what is being delivered.

If you want to use your phone, get a tripod, gorilla pod or gimbal to reduce shake and give a smoother feeling for your audience.

8. Edit your content into something short sharp and concise.

Layer your assets from footage, voice over, music and logos to create a coherant and engaging message.

Make sure you dont settle for the first take, dont be afraid to retake shots or dialogue.

Don't waffle - be mindful that if your content isnt engaging, giving your audience information or lacking interest, then they will scroll away.

9. Music.

Music adds depth, pacing and emotion to your content. Make sure its on brand, something that your audience will appreciate.

Also make sure it is licensed correctly. Many editing apps have libraries of royalty free/ free music. Using current hits may seem like a good idea for your content, but many social media applications will remove copyrighted audio, place adverts on your content (whcih you wont generate revenue for) or can cause you legal issues.
